Featuring: Dr. Scot McKnight
Theologian Dr. Scot McKnight challenges the Church to view mission not merely as preaching or teaching, but as an extension of Jesus’ holistic, compassion-driven ministry. Drawing from Matthew 4–10, McKnight shows how Jesus’ mission—to teach, proclaim the kingdom, and heal—was motivated by visceral compassion (splagchnizomai) for people in need. And the same is true for anyone who wants to live a Jesus-shaped life today.
This is not abstract theology. It’s incarnational. McKnight emphasizes that Christoformity—being shaped like Christ—must include our mission. To be like Jesus is to do what Jesus did: see the hurting, feel their pain, and act with healing power and presence. Whether you’re a pastor, parent, counselor, church planter, or neighbor, every act of compassion becomes a moment of kingdom extension.
Through the example of his former student, McKnight illustrates how women—often unacknowledged by formal institutions—are nonetheless leading the Church in embodying Jesus’ mission. He boldly affirms that compassion, not platform, defines Christlikeness, and that women everywhere are participating in the Spirit-led, justice-infused work of holistic redemption.
