Featuring: Dr. Scot McKnight
In this insightful message, New Testament scholar Dr. Scot McKnight challenges the way many believers read and flatten the Bible—and especially how the Church has historically read and silenced the stories of women in Scripture. Drawing from his book The Blue Parakeet, McKnight walks the audience through what he calls "flattening tendencies" in how we read the Bible: turning it into a rulebook, a promise calendar, or a projection of our own theological preferences. Instead, he invites us into a storied, Spirit-filled, multi-voiced understanding of Scripture.
At the heart of this session is a bold and beautiful question: What did women do in the Bible—and who's actually being biblical today? From Miriam’s worship leadership, to Deborah’s military command, to Junia’s apostolic authority, to Mary’s prophetic song and Pentecost presence, McKnight paints a panoramic picture of empowered, faithful women doing exactly what God called them to do.
With humor, clarity, and pastoral challenge, McKnight dismantles the misuse of so-called “clobber texts” and urges believers—especially women—to reclaim their calling by looking at what Scripture actually says. This message is a prophetic call to let the voices of women rise and to follow Jesus not just with our theology, but with our practice.
