Sometimes following Jesus makes life more difficult. There are moments when it feels as though you are surrounded on all sides and pressured to return to old ways. The first Christians, and the original audience of the book of Hebrews, would have felt this in a deeply personal way. But the author reminds them and us that Jesus uses those difficult things to purify us and make us right in God’s presence.
