In our cultural moment, ethics often operate under the wooden rule. Sometimes, they elevate to the silver rule: don’t do to others what you don’t want done to you. Jesus elevates this still. He challenges us to view others–even our enemies–in the way that He sees them. If we truly claim to be followers of Jesus, then we simply do not have the authority to treat someone as unloved.
